Standard 5: Managerial Leadership
A. School Resources and Budget: The school executive establishes budget processes and systems which are focused on, and result, in improved student achievement.
The assignment below was a budget project that I completed while taking Budget with Dr. Price. I had to review data, analyze current resources, and reallocate school funds based on information given about the school. My charge, as a leader, was to share my concerns in how the staff utilized funds and make recommendations of how we could use the funds in a better way in order to support academic growth and development in students. I have been able to utilize this in my practice as an administrator by purchasing resources for our after school academy.

B. Conflict Management and Resolution: The school executive effectively and efficiently manages the complexity of human interaction so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Meeting with Officer Mosbey our school's resource officer
As a principal resident, I have found that I have to work with all aspects of managing a school. RMS has an awesome school resource officer that is not only interested in student safety, but student welfare as well. In this picture, I was working and planning with our school's resource officer, Officer Moseby, in order to discuss ideas to to reduce truancy.
As a result of the meeting, I began highlighting students who attended school each week by giving them a "shoutout" on the intercom. Teachers were also charged to give attendance points on Class Dojo. As points were collected, students were eligible for an "attendance party" that I orchestrated at the end of the semester.

As a principal resident, it is important to support teachers to ensure that they are successful and, in turn, that our students are successful. The email below was a follow-up conversation between a teacher and I after I completed a walkthrough in his classroom. In the email, I gave the teacher suggestions on things to do in order to dissolve some of the conflicts he faced in his classroom. The goal of this follow-up email, after our face-to-face conversation, was to remind him of our conversation and to support him in creating a positive environment where students were thriving each day. After sending him this email, I went back to ensure that he had begun to implement these suggestions and, fortunately, he had implemented all suggestions and stated that the environment was much better.

C. Systematic Communication: The school executive designs and utilizes various forms of formal and informal communication so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Having systematic communication with staff, students, and the community is very important as a leader. As a principal resident I assist in managing the calendar updates and staff birthdays. Below is a sample of the calendar. This is how we communicate information about meetings, trainings, school events, etc. Checking the calendar is a school expectation and it has proven to be more effective than sending out reminder emails. Google calendar is a major source of communication at my school. The entire staff has access to the RMS school calendar.

Letter to Parents/Guardians
The artifact to the left was a letter I created to send to parents/guardians as a means of clearly communicating the transitions that were taking place on our team. As a principal resident, I have learned how invaluable it is to be transparent about the happenings at school. Parents want and deserve to be informed of things that may affect their children.

D. School Expectation for Student and Staff: The school executive develops and enforces expectations, structures, rules and procedures for students and staff.
In my role as a principal resident, I have had to assimilate the tone of the administrative team. As a member of the PBIS team, we noticed a significant increase in the number of referrals from the first to the second quarter. After trying to determine the potential causes, we asked if we could share these findings with the staff to make them aware of what we could do better in order to be proactive in targeting negative behaviors. The agenda below is from a staff meeting where I was responsible for updating staff on our PBIS data. I also reminded staff of their expectations relating to being present in their assigned duty stations in order to address student behavior. I was also responsible for sharing information to the staff about ways we will celebrate and recognize students in our "100 days brighter" effort.
